My Pick for the 2025 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund

If I had to place my bet on one designer for this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, it would, without hesitation, be…

Peter Do.

I first discovered Do’s work during those strange, suspended months of the pandemic. Like many of us, I was aimlessly scrolling through Instagram when I came across his Spring/Summer 2020 collection. It stopped me in my tracks. There was a simplicity to it — clean lines, thoughtful tailoring — but beneath that, a quiet complexity. Familiar silhouettes reimagined with structure and subtle pops of color. Something about the collection spoke to me in a way few things did at the time.

From there, I fell headfirst into the world of Peter Do. What kept me hooked wasn’t just the clothes — though they’re undeniably beautiful — it was the intent behind every piece. In an industry that often feels overproduced and rushed, his work carries a sense of patience. Every cut, every seam, every fabric choice feels deliberate. It reminded me why I fell in love with fashion in the first place.

This year’s Fashion Fund finalists are all strong, and truthfully, any of them would deserve the recognition. But for me, Peter Do represents something fashion desperately needs more of: designers who move with intention, who create not just for trends but for meaning. And whether or not he takes home the prize this year, his future is already written in bold.

We’ll be watching (or rather me!).

So when the announcement came that Do would be stepping in as the new creative director at Helmut Lang, it felt like one of those rare moments when the right person finds the right place. His debut collection was everything I hoped it would be — minimalist in its core, but with unexpected strapping details on tailored suits that leaned into a modern streetwear sensibility. The denim, the subtle injections of color, the sense of ease paired with sharp structure — it was Helmut Lang through a new lens.
